The LWV-LF/LB needs you ... join our new Observer Corps and let the sunshine in!
"At every level, transparency and citizen participation are the critical ingredients to ensuring open and accountable government." —LWVUS President Wilson, 2010
Our new LWV-LF/LB Observer Corps will promote government transparency and accountability in two distinct areas: access to public records and access to public meetings.
Our Observer Corps will provide a valuable service to the community by helping to ensure that citizens are aware of the local decisions that impact their lives. Observers working on behalf of their friends, families, and neighbors will observe objectively and report back to the League regarding their observations on the proceedings. LWV-LF/LB Observers will be required to follow long-established LWV guidelines regarding objectivity during their observation of and reporting about governmental meetings and hearings. Observers observe. They do not act on issues during the course of observing governmental meetings and must refrain from expressing or promoting personal or partisan agendas.
To join our Observer Corps, you must complete 2 hours of training sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Illinois (LWVIL). Free, customized LWVIL Observer Corps training will be offered for our League on Zoom on March 20 from 9 to 11 am. If you are interested in attending any local governmental meetings on behalf of LWV-LF/LB (via Zoom) and joining the Observer Corps (or simply learning more about this process), register in advance for Zoom training here:
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
