Since 2014, our League has played a part in National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), a nationwide, nonpartisan effort to register annually thousands of voters on the fourth Tuesday of September. LWV-LF/LB took a leadership role in forming partnerships throughout our two communities to encourage voter registration. Our deputy registrars helped people to register and answered their questions in sites scattered around the two towns.
Over the years, our League has enjoyed strong support throughout our communities. Years ago, Lake Forest City Council and Lake Bluff Village Board both passed resolutions in support of NVRD. Our Lake County Board members, Sandy Hart and Mike Rummel, often have included the information in their e-newsletters.
This year because of COVID-19 and related uncertainties, our League and partners will provide limited in-person voter registration. Instead, we are encouraging people to register online by using the LWV of Illinois’ online voting resource - the Illinois Voter Guide https://illinoisvoterguide.org or the Lake County Clerk’s website.
Deputy Registrars will sit outside Starbucks, 672 N. Western Ave. in Lake Forest on Sat. Sept 19, and Sept 20 from 10:00am to 1:00pm. They will provide materials for registering or applying for a mail-in ballot and informational handouts. Also, if members have questions, they can always contact Mary Mathews at email@example.com. The Voter Services committee will respond.
