The first recipient of the newly established Carrie Chapman Catt Local Leadership Award will be announced at the annual Holiday Luncheon on December 6 at the Grille on Laurel. The Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters–Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Area recently voted to establish the award, naming it in honor of the founder of the League of Women Voters in 1920.
Carrie Chapman Catt was a prominent leader in the fight for women's suffrage. With her great leadership and organizational skills, she was able to pressure Congress to pass the 19th Amendment.
The award will recognize a League member who has shown outstanding leadership and considerable action in promoting the League's mission. Current members of the Board are not eligible for the award.
